在前期充分酝酿、战略合作基础上，华东师范大学与临港实验室于2023年5月签订协议共建华东师范大学药学院，聘请中国科学院院士陈国强为名誉院长，聘请临港实验室副主任李洪林教授为首任院长。作为新型药学人才培养和科学研究平台，学院将实现学校和临港实验室在科研任务、师资力量、研究基地、招生培养方面的开放共享、深度融合，通过建立新的运行机制，形成新的文化氛围，努力建设成为面向国际前沿和国家战略需求的药物科学前沿基地和未来药学人才培养基地。
学院下设药物科学系和药物工程系，现已拥有药学一级学科博士点和生物与医药工程博士点。学院依托华东师范大学在药学、计算机科学、化学、生物学、软件工程、统计学、心理学等强势学科优势，结合临港实验室的创新药物研究实力，围绕化学、基因、细胞、数字四类药物，重点发展人工智能药学（AIDD） 、药物智造、数字药物、生物药物与递送系统等前沿技术和方向，通过多学科的交叉融合，培养“全面而自由”的面向国际前沿和国家战略需求的高精尖缺“药学英才”，加强推进药物研究的产业转化，打造集人才培养、科学研究、产业转化为一体的未来药学院。
